Construction of a stone carpet

A stone carpet can generally be applied to old tiled surfaces, provided they are still stable and solid. However, it is recommended that the tiles be removed to avoid potential damage under the stone carpet. The first step is to clean and prepare the subsurface. If desired, the old covering is removed. Any cracks or damage are repaired and height differences in the transition areas are leveled. If necessary, a slope is filled in. After the surface has been primed and special balcony drainage profiles have been attached to the edge area, the sealing is carried out using liquid plastic including a fleece insert, as required by the current DIN standards. Our sealing is ETAG 005 W3 certified.

Since the stone carpet itself is permeable to water, the sealing also serves as a water-bearing layer. The stone carpet can now be filled in seamlessly with a height of 8-12 mm (depending on the substrate and the stone grain). We also recommend laying a drainage mat under the stone carpet. This improves the natural drainage function of the stone carpet, water is drained away more quickly and the stone carpet is decoupled from the substrate. This contributes to the improved durability and cleanliness of the stone carpet. Last but not least, the surface can be solidified again if desired.
